After you count, you already know how many there are. You do not need to count again. The last number you say is the total.

Count the stars: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. There are 6 stars in total.

Good to know

You can count in any order. Left to right or right to left, the total stays the same.

The last number you count is the total, no matter the order or the arrangement.
